Biography
Saint Gabriel the Archangel is God’s messenger. In the book of Daniel he interprets the prophet’s visions; in the Gospel of Luke he announces the birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah and, at Nazareth, brings to the Virgin Mary the announcement on which all history turns: that she is to be the Mother of the Lord.
His name means God is my strength. He is the patron of messengers and of all whose work is communication, from postal workers to broadcasters. With the archangels Michael and Raphael he is honored on 29 September.
