Biography
Saint Amabilis of Riom, also known as Saint Amabilis of Auvergne (French: Saint Amable, Italian: Sant'Amabile), was a Gallo-Roman saint who served at Clermont in the early medieval period. Sidonius Apollinaris brought him to serve as a cantor in the church of Saint Mary at Clermont and later as a precentor at the cathedral of Clermont. He eventually became a parish priest in Riom, where he gained a reputation for holiness during his lifetime. Amabilis is not to be confused with a female saint also named Mable who died in 634 AD and was an Anglo-Saxon princess who became a nun at Saint-Amand monastery in Rouen; her feast day is celebrated on July 11.
