Biography

Saint Alban Bartholomew Roe, O.S.B., was a Benedictine priest and martyr of the English Catholic Reformation. Born in England, he converted to Catholicism and studied at the English College in Douai, France, though he was dismissed for a disciplinary infraction. He entered the Benedictine Order at Dieulouard, France, in 1612, receiving priestly ordination. Returning to England as a missionary, he dedicated himself to ministering to Catholics during a period of intense persecution. His clandestine work led to his arrest and exile in 1
