Biography

Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, better known as Yves Saint Laurent (1 August 1936 – 1 June 2008), was a French fashion designer who founded his eponymous fashion label in 1962. His designs were noted for their elegance and modernity, with the Mondrian Collection of 1965 being particularly influential. Saint Laurent introduced the 'Le Smoking' tuxedo suit for women in 1966 and was known for incorporating non-European cultural influences into his work. He received numerous accolades during his career, including recognition from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2007, he was elevated to the rank of Grand officier de la Légion d'honneur.
