Martyrs of Persia

Saint
Martyr
Pre-Congregation

Feast Day: 8-Feb

Canonized: Pre-Congregation

Biography

The Martyrs of Persia were an unknown number of Christians who were killed during the persecutions of the early sixth century in the Persian Empire. Under the Sassanid dynasty, Christians faced periodic waves of violent suppression, and these unnamed faithful gave their lives rather than renounce their belief in Christ. According to pious tradition, so many miracles occurred through the intercession of these martyrs that the reigning king was moved to decree an end to the persecution of Christians throughout his realm. Though their individual names and stories have been lost to history, their collective witness to the faith and the miraculous events attributed to their intercession ensured their place in the memory of the Church.
