Biography

Blessed Mancius Araki Kyuzaburo, a lifelong layman of the Archdiocese of Nagasaki, Japan, is venerated for his steadfast witness to the faith in the face of persecution. Residing within the vibrant yet perilous Christian community of Nagasaki during a period of intense anti-Christian edicts, Araki lived out his baptismal call through ordinary acts of profound courage. His most notable deed occurred when he offered shelter and hospitality to the missionary Father Francisco Pacheco, providing a safe haven for the priest’s vital work amidst a climate of fear and repression.
